Furness Cricket Club – Major Improvement Plan

All these plans are subject to planning permission and we are currently in the ideas/vision stage. Do you want to get involved in delivering these ideas or even improving them further? Then join our new Committee Membership Scheme, launching very soon! If you have the drive to make a difference and be proactive, we would love to have you on board.

We are pleased to launch our ambitious improvement plan, aimed at modernising the club, creating new revenue streams, and positioning Furness Cricket Club as the go-to venue for sports viewing, hospitality, and functions. These proposals will significantly enhance the experience for players, spectators, and the wider community while strengthening the club’s long-term financial stability.

1. Apartments/Flats on Waste Land Behind the Clubhouse

We propose constructing three or four one-bedroom flats on the unused land behind the clubhouse. These units will provide the club with a consistent, year-round income and offer dedicated accommodation for future overseas players. This development will help stabilise finances while ensuring the club can continue to attract top cricketing talent.

2. New Hot Food & Drink Outlet

A small hot food and drink outlet is planned to be built onsite, offering another valuable income stream. This facility can operate throughout the summer and, if leased to a local business or run in-house, can also generate revenue throughout the winter. This addition will enhance the matchday experience and increase footfall around the club.

3. Extended Patio Area

We aim to extend the existing patio by continuing the same modern design across the full length of the clubhouse. This will create a large, single-level outdoor space, significantly improving the spectator experience and providing more capacity for events and functions.

The patio extension will also create an ideal opportunity to introduce enhanced disabled access into the clubhouse, ensuring the club becomes more inclusive and accessible for all visitors.

4. Full-Height Windows Across the Clubhouse

Where structurally possible, all windows will be upgraded to full-height glazing. This will flood the clubhouse with natural light, improve visibility for spectators, and create a more open, modern feel that better connects the inside of the clubhouse to the outside viewing areas.

5. Enlarged Entrance to the Bar Area

We plan to increase the width of the entrance into the bar area, allowing more light into the space while improving views of the pitch. A larger, more open access point will enhance the indoor-to-outdoor connection and create a more welcoming atmosphere for members and visitors.

6. Changing Room & Balcony Enhancements

The players’ viewing balcony will be extended to provide a more comfortable and modern viewing experience, including the installation of glass panels to improve sightlines. Additionally, the doors to both the home and away changing rooms will be widened, improving access and upgrading the overall usability of the facilities.
