It is with immense sadness that we share the news of the passing of our friend and clubman, Matthew Rogerson. known to us all as Rog. Many of you will already be aware of this heartbreaking news, and if you’re learning of it through this post, we are truly sorry.
This message isn’t to break the news, but rather to pay tribute to a man who meant so much to so many.
Finding the right words is incredibly difficult at a time like this. The shock is still sinking in, and as time passes, countless memories of Rog will come to mind ,each one a reminder of how lucky we were to of know him.
Rog was an integral part of Furness Cricket Club for decades. He played a key role in many junior triumphs during the early to mid 1990s, and continued to contribute at A and B team levels with his beloved Rams. A true clubman, he served as a Committee Member, Vice President, was named Clubman of the Year, and gave countless hours as a junior coach, manager, and helper. He even lent a hand with groundsman duties when needed, nothing was ever too much. Rog lived and breathed this club.
A fitting and appropriate tribute will be bestowed by the club in the near future! He was our gentle giant, our Rog. And we are incredibly proud to say that Furness was his club.
His absence will be deeply felt at the club, on the sidelines, and in the hearts of everyone who knew him. It will take time for us all to adjust to life without his presence, but we will carry his spirit with us always.
We extend our deepest condolences to Rog’s family and the many friends who were so close to him. As a club, we are here to support anyone affected by this loss, especially Logan, who continues Rog’s legacy as a player in our junior and academy teams.
We will share details of funeral arrangements as soon as the Rogerson family feel ready to do so.
Rest in peace, Rog. You will never be forgotten.
